OHGenWeb County Coordinator Technical Help Page

This page is geared to help you find programs which will help you in making your webpages and make your life a little easier on the internet.

Freeware Programs

Firefox — Internet Browser that is far superior to Internet Explorer. Hundreds of available add-ons for specialized work, including webmasters.

HTML Goodies - Tutorials on HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Javascript, PHP - in short, lots of goodies.

Fast Stone Image Viewer — also does some image manipulation.

Filezilla — FTP program

SmartFTP — FTP Program (Effective July 1, 2008, SmartFTP is no longer a free program)

Thunderbird — email program

Irfanview — Image Viewing program

Xenu Link Sleuth — is a freeware program you download onto your machine, and you can run it to check all the links on any web page (or a whole web site). Link verification is done on "normal" links, images, frames, plug-ins, backgrounds, local image maps, style sheets, scripts and java applets. It generates a report of all broken links, and you can set it to also generate a site map. You can set it to email the report, or to generate an html version of it.

The Javascript Source — There are a lot of things you can do with Javascript. Here you'll find hundreds of scripts ready for you to copy and paste.

Dynamic Drive — DHTML & Javascripts to enhance your site.

HTML Entities — Need to use a special character like ¢ or Æ or even ♠ but don't know how to do it? Entities provide a method of entering characters that cannot be expressed in the document's character encoding or that cannot easily be entered on a keyboard.

Open Office — Alternative to a lot of Microsoft products, like Word, Excel & others. Rather large program, but the word processor will easily save a word document as a .pdf file.

Open Source Web Design, Open Web Design and Free Layouts — Thousands of Open Source templates.

Stock.Xchng — Thousands of free photos

Non-Dithering Colors — Hex codes for the 216 colors that will render the same on any screen.
