Title: How do I find this will?
Post by: listadministratorevans on September 19, 2008, 03:35:44 PM
Hi,
I'm looking for a will based on a message I've received recently.
It's pretty important to me and I'm anxious to get the exact wording as soon as possible.
Here's the information:

Dorcas Evans born 1745 married Reverend Edward Chaney who was a Methodist minister. He died in Highland County, Ohio.  He left a will dated 1813.  Estate was settled in 1821

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find an 1813/1821 Will written in Highland County, Ohio?

Renee

Wills are handled by the county Probate court.  It took some doing to find contact info for Highland county's probate court, but you'll find it at http://www.lucas-co-probate-ct.org/Highland.htm - a letter might be appropriate.

Since Highland county was formed in 1805, they should have those records, unless they have been destroyed by a court house fire.

I live in Highland County. Give me a few days to get to the court house and I will look for you.
